Whilst in my current position as a Group marketing manager for a retail beauty company, I was tasked to create a new, all singing, all dancing website that would put Lush to shame. I love Lush products and their website and, therefore, I benchmarked them as my top user experience website to be inspired by.
Apart from the buyer personas and the feedback I researched, the UX design models I identified and some analytics I compared, I discovered that the current website we have is not optimised for search engines. As I am interested to rank it high in the search engines, I started reading various blogs for advice. The below are the ones I found useful in terms of the depth of information and how up-to-date they are with all the latest SEO trends.
- Google Blog . The official digital blog of Google with the most up-to-date and advanced articles on SEO. Great quality, great quantity.
- Search Engine Land. I followed them on Twitter a couple of years ago and I have been hooked up ever since. Fresh content and with great examples of SEO that worked.
- KISSmetrics. Exactly what it says on its tin: analytics, marketing and testing. Personally, it saved me at the start of my digital marketing journey when I was struggling with combining web metrics to justify spending budget in the digital marketing plan. It has a great volume of research and plenty of real-life examples.
- Search Engine Watch. Just go have a look, very in-depth content. It ranges from PPC, SEO, social media, video, mobile, CRM and many more.
- HubSpot. The king of content marketing and great source of advice on evaluation of marcomms, SEO and strategic planning.
- Reddit SEO Community. Whether you are a novice or a pro, it is a great community to join and interact with. Ask any question and you will get answers. A lot of them.
- Moz. Knowledgeable, passionate and honest SEO tips. I really like their originality and their fresh approach.
